The Guardian Says These Are the 20 Best Apps To Load on a New Smartphone
If you have just unboxed your shiny new iPhone 8 or iPhone X – or any other smartphone for that matter – you’ll have expected your device to come pre-loaded with a series of default best apps.
Consumers not in the app reseller or app development business simply consider this to be the norm. However, for all of those apps that come installed and ready to go, there are a host of alternatives that do the same job just as well, if not better.
This week, The Guardian has published its list of 20 best apps which can improve your smartphone, which you won’t get straight out the box. And with everything from navigation to weather, it’s clear that there’s lots of great alternatives to default offerings. Let’s take a look at some of the choices to inspire your own app development efforts.
Grammerly Keyboard
Although the Android app hasn’t yet been replaced, Grammerly Keyboard is deserving of its spot on The Guardian’s top 20 list. This clever app replaces the default iOS keyboard and similarly to the desktop and web versions, will help you to rid you text of embarrassing grammar errors. It checks grammar, punctuation and spelling as you type, so business emails and instant messages sent on the go will remain professional and error-free.
Citymapper
This alternative to Google Maps has something of a cult following, although it isn’t loaded as a default app on either Android or iOS. It’s free to use and loved by fans for its choice of routes and transport methods.
Outlook
Millions of us use Outlook every day but, your iPhone will come with Gmail as default. The Outlook app replicates the desktop experience for email, calendar functionality and file management. This is a great one to add to your home screen to help you keep on task with your mobile app reseller business.
Pacer
While every iPhone has the default Health App, Pacer is a reliable and functional alternative. It will track your steps in the same way Health will (using your smartphone’s sensors) and has some cool features such as walking groups which other default apps don’t include. A good one if your New Year’s resolution is to spend less time sat at your desk and more time getting your daily quota of fresh air and exercise.
While each of these apps has a default alternative, these are popular in their own right, showing that just because iOS or Android have done it before, it’s not always the best match for users.
