How to lose a sale: Are you making these mistakes?

Being your own boss and determining your own success is something many people aspire to achieve. The freedom of shaping your destiny and being in control is something that we all crave. However, when the opportunity arises many people are making fundamental mistakes that lead to loss of sales. With that being said, the focus of todays blog is to highlight some of the mistakes you can make to lose a sale.

• Staying anonymous – being well known in your area or community is a great way to attract potential customers. However, being anonymous and not getting your name across can lead to your business venture grinding to a halt. If potential customers do not know who you are, they will not be doing business with you. Ensuring your local community knows what you offer will increase your level of success.

• Disengaging – getting your name out there is only part of the solution. Failing to follow up on contacts and networking is another sure fire mistake that many business owners make. Building trust and a professional relationship with your potential clients will allow you to sell your services to others within your business community.

• Failing to add value – the sale of any product or service needs to add value to the client and this is especially true of mobile applications. Being able to quickly and concisely pitch your proposition to businesses is crucial in helping them understand their return on investment if purchasing from you. Many business owners fail at this aspect as they drown their product in technical jargon and do not adequately relate the benefits to the client.

• Failing to secure commitment – interacting with clients face to face, over the phone and via email is all part of the process of securing commitment to close a sale. By not engaging with customers and following up conversations, you will allow a hot prospect to suddenly go cold, thus losing a sale.

• Not devising the right solution – each client is unique and it is important to realise this when selling. Having a great product tailored to the clients’ situation will maximise your chances of success. By sharing your vision of how your product/service benefits the client and leads to tangible results is one of the best methods to secure the sale.

• Failing to ask for the sale – this may seem obvious but many business owners actually fail to ask for the sale after putting in all the ground work.

Closing a client is one of the most crucial and exhilarating parts of the sales process. Although at first it may feel slightly unnatural, asking for the sale in a way that stresses the benefits for the client will lead to more positive outcomes than rejections.

As we have seen, there are many pitfalls within the sales process that many business owners simply do not avoid and thus diminish their own chances of success. By taking note of some of the points raised above you will maximise your opportunities to attract new clients. Your homepage is your agency’s first handshake. If it’s unclear, cluttered, or generic—you’re losing potential clients in seconds. Here's what your homepage actually needs to convert visitors into leads. 1. A Headline That Tells Them What You Do “Helping local businesses grow with mobile apps and digital tools.” Make it specific, client-focused, and benefit-driven. If it could apply to anyone, it applies to no one. 2. A Strong Subheadline That Builds Trust “Trusted by 1,000+ entrepreneurs across 20 countries.” This is your social proof shortcut. Numbers work. So do logos and testimonials. 3. A Visual That Shows the Result Use mockups, screenshots, or lifestyle photos. Help visitors see what they’ll get—a mobile app, a dashboard, a website, a client smiling. 4. A Short List of Benefits (Not Features) Launch your digital presence fast No tech skills required Support and tools included Keep it tight. Think “what’s in it for me?” from the client’s point of view. 5. A Clear Call to Action (CTA) “Book a free call” “Get your launch pack” “See what’s possible” CTAs should stand out visually and be repeated 2–3 times on the page. 6. A Simple Contact Form or Button Make it easy to get in touch or book. Remove friction. Don’t ask for more than name, email, and one question. Pro tip: You don’t need to design from scratch. The Eazi-Business Business-in-a-Box gives you ready-made homepage templates with proven structure, persuasive copy blocks, and branding flexibility. Use our pre-built website framework to launch with confidence and convert faster.
