Top SEO trends for 2021
Rebecca Appleton • 9 December 2020
What can we expect to see in search marketing next year?

A New Year almost certainly means new SEO trends, especially given the hue increase in search and ecommerce during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, we’re rounding up the tactics and strategies that we think will dominate in 2021, to help you get a leg up on the top search results heading into the New Year.
Trend 1: More focus on intent
A lot of the major changes made to Google algorithms – such as the machine learning algorithm Bert – have all been designed to help the search engine determine the intent behind a search query. It should come as no surprise then to learn that intent will be a recurring SEO theme over the next 12 months. Most SEO professionals agree there will be a greater focus on the reasons behind a search and a desire to serve up content that provides those answers or solutions.
Trend 2: A greater focus on all owned media
One of the core pillars of local search is prominence; how proflific your business is across the digital ecosystem. This could also be more important in 2021, as Google and other search engines work to build a better picture of your brand (or you as an individual if you are your brand) and return results from respected, credible, authorative sources.
Building prominence means that all of your owned media channels, from your website and your blog to things like your social media profiles and even podcasts, will need careful attention through the year.
Trend 3: Mobile ever more important
It seems that we assign more importance to mobile and the mobile user experience each year and 2021 will be no different. The truth is that we all rely on our mobile devices more and more, and are increasingly now using our phones not just to research and shortlist, but to transact purchases too. Mobile has also been a huge priority for Google for a number of years so expect mobile optimisation to be crucial to your search success in 2021. This could mean you spend more time on the mobile user experience, work to improve mobile page speed, dedicate more time to local SEO or craft content specifically for the mobile rather than desktop search user.
Trend 4: Long form content
There is always some debate between SEO professionals and marketers as to what exactly constitutes long form content and, whether it is really important with the diminishing role of keywords but, 2021 is set to show us that content is still king. Rather than multiple shorter posts, longer, more detailed content which follows the E-A-T methodology will be essential for SEO efforts.

Your homepage is your agency’s first handshake. If it’s unclear, cluttered, or generic—you’re losing potential clients in seconds. Here's what your homepage actually needs to convert visitors into leads. 1. A Headline That Tells Them What You Do “Helping local businesses grow with mobile apps and digital tools.” Make it specific, client-focused, and benefit-driven. If it could apply to anyone, it applies to no one. 2. A Strong Subheadline That Builds Trust “Trusted by 1,000+ entrepreneurs across 20 countries.” This is your social proof shortcut. Numbers work. So do logos and testimonials. 3. A Visual That Shows the Result Use mockups, screenshots, or lifestyle photos. Help visitors see what they’ll get—a mobile app, a dashboard, a website, a client smiling. 4. A Short List of Benefits (Not Features) Launch your digital presence fast No tech skills required Support and tools included Keep it tight. Think “what’s in it for me?” from the client’s point of view. 5. A Clear Call to Action (CTA) “Book a free call” “Get your launch pack” “See what’s possible” CTAs should stand out visually and be repeated 2–3 times on the page. 6. A Simple Contact Form or Button Make it easy to get in touch or book. Remove friction. Don’t ask for more than name, email, and one question. Pro tip: You don’t need to design from scratch. The Eazi-Business Business-in-a-Box gives you ready-made homepage templates with proven structure, persuasive copy blocks, and branding flexibility.
