Website Design Trends You’ll be Seeing Plenty of in 2020 – Part 1: Hero Areas
Ilya Nasedkin • 31 January 2020
Website design is much like fashion, it changes frequently and rapidly and for many it’s a case of playing catch up

Luckily for you we’ve rounded up some of the trends we’re expecting to see plenty of in 2020 so that you can see what takes your fancy and potentially jump on board while it’s still cool!
What is important to remember though before we dive into some of the 2020 trends, is that trends can differ by industry. It’s rare for many overall trends to impact everybody on the web and let’s face it if we all followed suit, the internet would be a dull experience wouldn’t it?
New Use for Hero Areas
Hero areas, if you haven’t been made aware of this phrase before, are essentially the big first to load and view areas of a page or website. Usually they are dead centre above the fold but either below or alongside the main navigation. These areas have been in fashion for a while as we abandoned clutter and made a change to impact design. The trends that change are how we are using them and what we’re filling this space with.
From 2018, one of the biggest uses for the hero area has been big background imagery. Usually this takes the form of one maximum size hero image with some limited copy over the top. Take a look at this example from fitness wear giants, Gym Shark.
While we are going to continue to see this style and with less and less overlaying copy, the new emerging trend is even more minimalist. We’re starting to see text only hero areas. Big bold statements in cleverly chosen, eye catching typography with little to no supporting imagery.
This is part of our ongoing acceptance and comfort with allowing white (empty) space on our website designs. Taking over from our prior trend of getting as much vital information displayed above the fold as possible. This is in turn is part of our desire to be more focussed with where we want our visitor’s attention to go. What we want to do here is draw eyes to bold statements, products and call to actions rather than presenting a screen which looks overcrowded and messy.
Expect to see a much smoother and subtle merger between design and leading the visitor’s journey and narrative through websites in 2020.

The future belongs to recurring revenue — a model that allows you to earn predictable, ongoing income month after month. And for those looking to build freedom, flexibility, and financial stability, it’s a game-changer.

For anyone launching a digital agency today, the smartest move is to start with a business-in-a-box solution like Eazi-Business. Your homepage is your agency’s first handshake. If it’s unclear, cluttered, or generic—you’re losing potential clients in seconds. Here's what your homepage actually needs to convert visitors into leads. 1. A Headline That Tells Them What You Do “Helping local businesses grow with mobile apps and digital tools.” Make it specific, client-focused, and benefit-driven. If it could apply to anyone, it applies to no one. 2. A Strong Subheadline That Builds Trust “Trusted by 1,000+ entrepreneurs across 20 countries.” This is your social proof shortcut. Numbers work. So do logos and testimonials. 3. A Visual That Shows the Result Use mockups, screenshots, or lifestyle photos. Help visitors see what they’ll get—a mobile app, a dashboard, a website, a client smiling. 4. A Short List of Benefits (Not Features) Launch your digital presence fast No tech skills required Support and tools included Keep it tight. Think “what’s in it for me?” from the client’s point of view. 5. A Clear Call to Action (CTA) “Book a free call” “Get your launch pack” “See what’s possible” CTAs should stand out visually and be repeated 2–3 times on the page. 6. A Simple Contact Form or Button Make it easy to get in touch or book. Remove friction. Don’t ask for more than name, email, and one question. Pro tip: You don’t need to design from scratch. The Eazi-Business Business-in-a-Box gives you ready-made homepage templates with proven structure, persuasive copy blocks, and branding flexibility. Use our pre-built website framework to launch with confidence and convert faster.
