To improve traffic rates and increase visitors to your site, you must optimise your site for search engines. There are certain techniques to perform on your website to ensure it runs smoothly and keeps visitors interested, and most of those fall into two categories: on- and off-page SEO.There is a considerable difference between on-page SEO and off-page SEO, and both work in harmony to ensure your site’s success. Some of the most important on-page forms of SEO include:

The word seo is written on scrabble tiles on a wooden table.

Page titles and descriptions Search engines love simplicity. Despite the use of incredibly sophisticated technology, engines still like to be spoon-fed important information. It’s incredibly vital to get your page titles and descriptions up to scratch; as these keywords and phrases will help Google and other search engines link your pages to their users’ searches. Internal links Simply put, internal linking helps search engines’ technology to explore your site. In a matter of milliseconds, engines will start off on your homepage and follow all the links they find to get to everywhere else on your site. Even the deepest, darkest, most obscure areas of your website are within reach as long as other pages on your site link there. Fresh content There’s nothing like an up-to-date website with optimised images and fast loading times to drive a search engine crazy! When a web user searches online for something, they’re not going to choose a result that is 10, five or even two years old over content that is more recent, which is why engines favour the freshest content on the web. Search engines don’t pull items up in date order, so relevance is still key, but it’s crucial to keep a constant flow of new content.Off page SEO is different but equally as effective. Methods include: Link building Say you’ve created an exciting and ground-breaking piece of content or have a must-see product for a specific demographic. One of the most vital ways to get this item seen is by getting backlinks from other websites. The more reputable the website that links to your page is, the more likely people are to visit you - a news story shared on the BBC’s website, for example, is likely to be seen by thousands of people - and the more search engines will favour you. Search engines look to give their users the best answers to their questions. To do this, they look at who the most reliable sources link to. Social media How do those viral videos become bring overnight success to people? Social media has a lot to do with it. Over the past five years, sophisticated search engines have started to look at what websites garner more shares and likes on social media. If your content is popular there, it’s likely it’ll be popular with search engines.
