Motivation: The key to selling to SME’s?

Running your own business and being in control of your own destiny is not for the feint hearted, with no one ever saying it is easy. Aside from being highly organised and determined to succeed, one of the biggest traits that anyone running their own business must possess is “motivation”.

It can be difficult to stay motivated when you have just had your latest proposal rejected, but the key to success is retaining that motivation and approaching the next prospect with even more enthusiasm. Staying motivated can keep you on track to achieve the sales that are the lifeblood of any business. With this being said, the purpose of this blog is to highlight useful tips to keep you motivated when selling mobile apps to small/medium sized businesses (SME’s).

• Psychological – To stay motivated you need to have a strong mind and remain positive. By having laser focus and keeping the bigger picture in mind, you are able to overcome what seem like the biggest challenges. As a business owner, no one will motivate you so it must come from within.

• Exit your comfort zone – If you are feeling demotivated, try to challenge yourself by setting goals and tackling problems in an unusual way. For example, if you are struggling to get hold of a prospect over the phone or email, why not try to pay them a visit face to face?

• Stay healthy – We have heard the saying, “all work and no play”. Sometimes you may be feeling tired or even lazy, at this point take a walk or get some fresh air. It is amazing how taking a short break and doing any kind of physical activity can refresh your body and mind, motivating you for the tasks ahead.

• Big targets – The most successful sales people do not settle for mediocrity and set themselves big targets, striving to do whatever it takes to achieve them. Setting big targets will help keep you motivated as you work towards achieving the holy grail. The more ambitious you are, the more motivated you will be to achieve success.

• Ask for help – It is always important to identify areas where you can improve your sales process. This may involve researching online for new strategies or simply asking for help from contacts that are successful in the sales field. By continually self-analysing your sales performance you can achieve greater results.

As we have seen above, there is no one contributory factor that keeps you motivated. Rather it is a culmination of a range of factors that contribute towards the level of motivation you feel. Always remember to keep your head high, think of the bigger picture and trust your own abilities to ensure success.
