Brands Who Are Winning With Smartphone Apps With QR Codes

When it comes to smartphone barcodes and QR codes, there are some brands who simply seem to ‘get it’ more than others. We’ve compiled this list of brands who have excelled at this practice to provide some much-needed inspiration!

Tesco

With the intention of becoming the top grocery store in Korea, Tesco used QR codes to design a virtual shopping space in subway stations. There was a QR code added to each item, wherein shoppers were able to create their own virtual shopping list, add their products to a virtual basket, and have them delivered at a time and date of their choosing. This clever campaign allowed Tesco to utilize and benefit from this technology whilst also increasing their own profits and enhancing their reputation as a forward-thinking supermarket , with the company reporting a 130% increase in revenue and 76% increase in customers.

Guinness

In an effort to become the most talked about brand in pubs and bars, Guinness decided to run a QR campaign of their very own, creating unique Guinness glasses with a QR code printed on them which only appeared when filled with the beverage. The glasses were then shipped out to bars, and upon scanning, a wide range of different benefits were unlocked for customers, including the chance to get hold of promotional coupons, update Facebook or Twitter and invite friends for a drink. This social element played neatly into the intentions of the Guinness campaign , while cleverly harnessing the possibilities of QR codes.

Turkish Airlines

Capitalising on the buzz and increased London footfall during the London Olympics 2012 , Turkish Airlines decided to get creative with their use of QR codes, by placing them around the city’s bus stops with the chance of winning a trip to the city mentioned in each campaign image. This campaign was hugely successful for the airline, drumming up 20,000 extra visits to the airline during this time period alone.

Creating a great campaign using QR codes or smartphone barcodes takes creativity and big aspirations – as these examples show. Making your code visually appealing can help boost engagement, and having a firm grasp of your goals and how you’ll keep track of your campaign’s success are also essential to ensuring you make the most of it. Yet with the right expert team assembled , there is no limit to what you can achieve with this smart tech.
