6 easy ways to grow your Pinterest presence

According to a recent study, 90% of consumers who use Pinterest on a weekly basis use the social network to help them make purchase decisions – for an ecommerce site, this makes Pinterest an exciting and important network to succeed on. As a source of inspiration for everything from holidays to décor, the image sharing site is a relevant source of traffic (and shoppers) for a wide range of online retailers. If you would like to grow your presence on the platform to be front and centre when users are deciding what to buy and where to shop, follow our tips:
1. Add the Pin pin to your site
If you don’t already have a ‘pin this’ button on your product images, getting that installed on your ecommerce website should be your first job. This quick and easy plug in allows a website visitor to click and share your product image (Pin) to their Pinterest boards. This simple act, much like sharing a link on Facebook or tagging a brand on Instagram, gives you instant Pinterest visibility. Offering the Pin This button makes it easy for others to share your content for you, helping you to raise brand awareness and begin to tap into the shopper purchase journey.
2. Use Product Pins markup
Adding Product Pins to your site schema allows Pinterest users to more easily see all pertinent product information, such as pricing, availability and product description. The Product Pin then takes the Pinner to your site to buy.
3. Optimise your own boards
Much like your blog posts or your landing pages, you can also optimise your own brand boards to make them easier to find and higher profile. You’ll need to begin with keyword research as always and then, once you have your relevant phrases to hand, write an optimised, engaging board description. Add the most appropriate keyword to each of your board titles and ensure each board has a decent amount of images. Keeping them broader can help with you.
4. Be selective and creative with images
The images you share on your own boards should relate to your products and services. Being selective about images and creative with image style is important here as a vibrant aesthetic in line with your brand identity is an easy way to stand out. As a rule of thumb, avoid using stock photos where possible as these could (and most likely are) be used by other brands, diluting your own impact.
5. Engage with your audience
Creating a sense of community and engaging with your audience is just as important on Pinterest as it is on LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram. Follow others, comment on Pins and create Group Boards which other Pinners can post to.
6. Try advertising
Over the last 18 months Pinterest has added a range of new ad options and paid features for business users. Experiment with things like promoted Pins to grow your reach.
