Common reasons why your site isn’t getting much traffic

Whether you’re a startup, an SME or a global brand, maximising traffic to your website is vital if you hope to generate leads and increase conversion rates. There are numerous reasons why average web traffic may drop but there are a handful of issues that are commonly found in all industries. If you’ve noticed that your website isn’t getting as many visitors as it was, one of these could be the cause.

Trouble finding your website It’s easy to get disheartened and assume a drastic drop in web traffic is due to a lack of quality content on your website but it may be that consumers are simply not able to find you. Search engines like Google are the primary platform for web browsers and consumers in search of products and services. This means that it’s vital you are doing everything you can to rank highly. Ensure that your SEO strategy is up to date and that your website content includes the right keywords. Lack of accurate meta data Even when you are ranking high in Google searches, you still may experience low traffic. This is often due to low click-through-rates which contrast the number of successful impressions on Google against the number of clicks your website gets. Ensure that all of your meta data and descriptions are up to date and engaging. This will encourage more users to click your links. No diversity of content The whole idea of inbound strategies such as content marketing is to provide web browsers and consumers with informative and entertaining content, even if that content doesn’t directly promote your brand or service. If you focus solely on filling your website only with content about your products or services, you are reducing the scope of your marketing strategy. It’s important to build loyalty and develop your brand as a reliable source of information through curated content like blogs. Not enough focus on social media Social media is an incredibly versatile and influential marketing tool which should be utilised. Data has shown that 71% of consumers that have a good social media experience are likely to recommend the brand to other users. This means that if you are not focusing enough effort on things like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, you are missing out on a lot of potential exposure. Strive to engage with consumers through social media and post regular content.
