Which trends will shape how we do business in 2020?

Rebecca Appleton • 8 November 2019

We have less than two full months left of 2019, meaning our thoughts are slowly turning to next year and what’s to come in 2020. As a tech company, we love this time of year as there’s a real air of excitement and expectation with what seems like dozens of groundbreaking trends on the horizon.

If you have started your own mobile app development agency with our Business-In-a-Box solution , you’ll probably be eager to know what will shape the face of business over the next 12 months. We thought it would be fun to peer into our crystal ball and share a few of our predictions with you…

More AI and machine learning

Machine learning and AI have been a presence this year but we fully expect the technology to continue to evolve and develop, giving more applications and business uses as 2020 progresses. From incorporating chatbots on websites to using AI to personalise the consumer journey and elevate customer service, there’s still plenty more to come.

Online shopping will grow and grow and grow

Last year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend set records as the largest online shopping day in history. With a forecasted $5 trillion e-commerce industry expected by 2024, we anticipate that the coming 12 months will be very exciting for this sector.

Of course, to reach those expected revenue levels and keep up with consumer expectations and demand, we’ll need to see some truly cutting edge developments. It’s likely that a key area of development will be in the payment space but we also expect web design to become even more sophisticated to replicate the real-world experience.

There have been some high profile digital-real world crossovers in recent months with stores powered by virtual assistants debuting. Could more of this be to come?

Green technology and processes will shine

If there has been one constant topic of conversation this year, it has been the need for more green consciousness. With climate change protests sweeping the globe, the zero waste movement picking up steam and more pressure placed on businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and be more sustainable in their choices, it’s probable that we’ll see many green initiatives taking centre stage next year. Whether that’s developing more sustainable materials, swapping traditional products for greener variations or trialling new ways to be more planet friendly, we say: watch this space.

You will also need to create a brand, develop marketing collateral, design a website, find customers, and develop a range of new skills.
