Damage control: 4 foolproof tactics to fight bad reviews and win more business

Eazi-Apps Support • 21 October 2017

The key to success for any business or app developer is generating good publicity and engaging positively with a wider consumer base. In the digital world, word of mouth has been replaced by review systems that allow customers to leave feedback. The quality of feedback can often make or break an app development company, particularly if they are new to the industry.

Try these methods to manage negative reviews for better reputation management and win more business.

Fix the problem

More often than not, a negative review for an app on any of the major digital markets will be related to a default or glitch with the product. This is common with new games that have not had all the kinks worked out or network-based apps that may have trouble connecting. The first step in dealing with a bad review is to find the root of the issue and fix it. It’s always a good idea to then announce the fix and engage with reviewers to request an updated review.

Get more in-depth

An issue with numerous review platforms and websites is a lack of context and in-depth information when it comes to the review processes. Many platforms operate on a star-rating system or incorporate vague questions that result in negative reviews. To combat this problem, use a more in-depth reviewing system with more specific questions. This will help you identify areas of concern in your app or service and will result in a fairer and more accurate overall rating.

Promote positive feedback

There are now more review websites than ever which can make it hard for new companies with minimal reviews to consolidate their ratings. The average rating on one website can often be wildly different to another. This is when an effective SEO strategy can help. By promoting the platform(s) on which your brand has better ratings you can drown out negative or unfair reviews by focusing attention on website and platforms that paint your company in a better light.

Reuse good reviews

Why benefit from good reviews just once when you can extend their effect for much longer and create a positive image across multiple platforms? Repurposing good reviews is a great way of generating good publicity across a variety of channels, particularly for emerging app developers new to the market. Creating a specific page that showcases good reviews or taking snapshots of positive feedback and posting it on social media are both great examples of repurposing good ratings.

Your homepage is your agency’s first handshake. If it’s unclear, cluttered, or generic—you’re losing potential clients in seconds. Here's what your homepage actually needs to convert visitors into leads. 1. A Headline That Tells Them What You Do “Helping local businesses grow with mobile apps and digital tools.” Make it specific, client-focused, and benefit-driven. If it could apply to anyone, it applies to no one. 2. A Strong Subheadline That Builds Trust “Trusted by 1,000+ entrepreneurs across 20 countries.” This is your social proof shortcut. Numbers work. So do logos and testimonials. 3. A Visual That Shows the Result Use mockups, screenshots, or lifestyle photos. Help visitors see what they’ll get—a mobile app, a dashboard, a website, a client smiling. 4. A Short List of Benefits (Not Features) Launch your digital presence fast No tech skills required Support and tools included Keep it tight. Think “what’s in it for me?” from the client’s point of view. 5. A Clear Call to Action (CTA) “Book a free call” “Get your launch pack” “See what’s possible” CTAs should stand out visually and be repeated 2–3 times on the page. 6. A Simple Contact Form or Button Make it easy to get in touch or book. Remove friction. Don’t ask for more than name, email, and one question. Pro tip: You don’t need to design from scratch.
